Tip: Set up a separate Chrome profile for your kids

Hey parents, I see a lot of people complaining about kids messing up their desktop search suggestions, accidentally clicking auto-filled credit card fields, or seeing bookmarks they shouldn't.

If your kids share a family computer, the very first security step you must take is creating a **separate Chrome profile** for them. It isolated their bookmarks, browsing history, and extensions from your main workspace.

Here is my quick tutorial on how to do it in 5 minutes:

  1. Open Chrome, click on your profile icon in the top right, and click Add.
  2. Select 'Set up a new profile' and log in with your child's Google account (which you can manage via Family Link).
  3. Go to Settings → Autofill and disable credit cards and addresses to protect your wallet.
  4. Install your safety extensions (such as **WhitelistVideo** for YouTube whitelisting and *uBlock Origin* to block malicious ads).
  5. To prevent them from disabling these extensions, open Chrome extensions settings and enable a lock password or manage them via Google Admin templates.

It's incredibly simple, keeps your personal bookmarks secure, and gives them a clean, focused, and secure digital sandbox.

This is solid advice, Mike! We did this on our shared iMac. My son has his own desktop shortcut pointing directly to his Chrome child profile. Combined with WhitelistVideo, he gets his vetted channels, and my work profiles are completely safe. Highly recommend!
